About Pivotell® pill dispensers

Medicines Management can be particularly difficult for those with a complicated pill regime. Non-compliance can result in unnecessary ill health for the patient, stress for the family, and significant avoidable costs to health and social services. Pivotell® automatic pill dispensers are highly effective in helping vulnerable adults to remember to take their medication. Users report that this results in improved health, more independence and a better quality of life.

Pivotell pill dispenser

Everyone forgets to take their medication at one time or another.

For those on a complex pill regime, not taking prescribed drugs at the right dose and at the right time can have major consequences, particularly if they are elderly or vulnerable.

A key benefit of Pivotell® automatic pill dispensers is that they make the correct dose, and only the correct dose, available at the correct time. All other pills are safely locked in the dispenser out of sight, helping prevent an incorrect dose or an overdose being taken.

The recent West Midlands Pilot* carried out a study of the benefits of Pivotell® automatic pill dispensers for patients who in many cases had some confusion, had difficulty remembering to take their medication and suffered adverse health consequences as a result.

As part of the study, Pivotell® automatic pill dispensers were provided to 380 people across the West Midlands region including people with poor memory such as those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. It also benefited patients with Parkinson’s, mental health issues, learning difficulties, physical difficulties, patients with longterm medical conditions on a daily pill regime, and the visually impaired.

The results showed that the use of Pivotell dispensers resulted in better self-management of medication, enabling a person:

  • To enjoy an improved quality of life
  • To remain independent at home for longer, and
  • To be less reliant on family members, health and social care services

Assessment is very important. If a person:

  • has a problem managing their medication,
  • is on a stable medication regime,
  • wants to take their medication correctly, but has some confusion,

so that he or she:

  • has difficulty remembering time and date and
  • has difficulty making a rational choice about which compartment to open in a medication blister pack or dossette box

Then they may be suitable for a Pivotell® automatic pill dispenser.

Pivotell Advance GSM pill dispenser with App alert messaging

Pivotell Advance GSM pill dispenser with App alert messaging

Making sure that someone has taken their medication can be stressful, especially when you are supporting someone at a distance.

The Pivotell Advance GSM pill dispenser can be easily filled, and programmed online to dispense pills up to 24 times a day. At the pre-programmed times, the dispenser rotates, the alarm signal is heard, and the correct dosage comes into view through the opening in the lid. The alarm can be programmed to ring for up to 5 hours. A self-locking shutter over the lid opening prevents access to the medication tray except at the alarm time. This prevents the possibility of double dosing or the forced movement of the medication tray by the user. The dispenser can send alert messages to family members if medication has, or has not been dispensed from the device at the medication time so that appropriate action is taken to check on the wellbeing of the individual before a potentially adverse event occurs.

Now, using the Jointly app, families can receive and store these messages in one central place, and share them with everyone involved in someone’s care. Alert messages can be sent in the following instances to your Jointly circle:

  • Dose not taken (halfway through the alarm time, to allow time to prompt)
  • and Dose not taken (at the end of the alarm time)
  • Dose Dispensed
  • 4 doses only remaining in the tray
  • Dispenser has been left upside down
  • Low battery
  • Device error

The Pivotell Advance GSM pill dispenser can also send SMS messages to up to three mobile numbers, and to one e-mail address (& if the user has a mobile phone he or she could be sent one of the warning messages).

Pivotell® Advance Automatic Pill Dispenser

Pivotell® Advance Automatic Pill Dispenser

The Pivotell® Advance dispenser incorporates a number of important and advanced features which are designed to help both the user remain compliant with their medication regime and further support their family members, carers and pharmacists.

It can be easily filled and programmed by the user, relative, carer or pharmacist to dispense pills up to 24 times a day. At the pre-programmed times, the dispenser rotates, the alarm signal is heard, and the correct dosage comes into view through the opening in the lid. The alarm can be programmed to ring for up to 5 hours.

Advanced Technology – Enhanced Security

Security – a self-locking shutter over the lid opening prevents access to the medication tray except at the alarm time. This prevents the possibility of double dosing or the forced movement of the medication tray by the user.

Display – the LCD display is visible though the lid.

Start Delay and Stop functions – Delays activation or deactivates dispenser – useful for those using multiple dispensers and to allow pharmacists or family members to fill in advance away from home.

Upside-down – the tray will not rotate if upside down. When upright it will move to the correct dose for the time & date at the next alarm time.

This also allows for the possibility that the dispenser could be transported upside down. If a dosage time occurs when the dispenser is upside down it will alarm as usual but the tray will not move forward. If the dispenser is upside down for some time the dispenser will record on how many occasions it should have rotated and when returned to the upright position will move to the correct position for the next scheduled dose so that the correct medication for that time will be presented.
